Water test for determining the pH value in the range from 4.5 to 9.0 - suitable for fresh and salt water.
The pH value is one of the most important water parameters in aquaristics. In short, the pH is the measure of whether the water reacts acidic (less than 7), neutral (~7) or alkaline (greater than 7). It is a logarithmic scale; this means that a change in pH by one unit changes the acid or base concentration by a factor of 10!
Please refer to the literature for information on the optimum pH range for your aquarium pets and use the test to check whether these values are achieved. If this is not the case, there are various options available to you to influence the pH. Among others:
- CO₂ supply to lower the pH
- CO₂ reduction through aeration to increase the pH
- Filtering using peat, alder cones, oak bark and other acidic wood and bark
- Changing the carbonate hardness using Duradrakon KH-Plus (increasing the pH) or DRAK pH/KH-Minus (lowering the pH)
pH test set 4.5 - 9.0 Instructions for use
- Rinse the cuvette several times with the water to be tested and then fill up with exactly 5 ml of water *
- Add 2 drops of the reagent and shake gently
- Compare the colour of the sample with the colour chart by holding the cuvette close to the colour that looks closest to you and looking through the top of the cuvette
For good results, it is best to use daylight (no direct sunlight)
* The meniscus of the water surface must touch the 10 ml graduation mark exactly
Caution
Clean the cuvette after use, close the reagent bottle tightly and store in a cool, dry place away from light.
