Water test for determining the phosphate concentration (PO4) - suitable for freshwater and saltwater aquariums
Measuring range: 0.05 - 2 mg/l PO4-P
Phosphate is not toxic. However, an excess of phosphate can, under certain circumstances, favour strong algae growth. On the other hand, aquatic plants and the zooxanthellae of corals in seawater require a minimum amount of phosphate to function. This test enables you to determine whether there is a need for action.
Phosphate test set Instructions for use
- Rinse the measuring vessel several times with the water to be tested and fill up to the 1st mark (corresponding to 5 ml) *
- Add 6 drops of PO4-1, close the jar, mix
- Add 6 drops of PO4-2, close jar, mix
- After 10 minutes Open the jar and compare the colour value from above with the colour scale until the same colour is achieved
- Read off the colour value! Intermediate values can be estimated
- After use, rinse the measuring glass thoroughly and close it
* The meniscus of the water surface must touch the 5 ml graduation mark exactly
Caution
Clean the cuvette after use, close the reagent bottles tightly and store in a cool, dry place away from light.
Keep out of reach of children! Not suitable for consumption!
Phosphate is one of the most important nutrients for aquarium plants. Please follow the instructions for our fertiliser Eudrakon P fertiliser for the recommended concentration.
Phosphate mainly enters the tank via the fish food and possibly via the tap water (for information on the PO4-concentration of your tap water can be obtained from the relevant waterworks). In addition, peat, other natural products and certain preparations for aquaria can contain significant amounts of phosphate.
You can specifically reduce the phosphate concentration with the phosphate fertiliser Eudrakon P phosphate fertiliser or with the phosphate binder Phosphareduc effectively.
