Composition of Eudrakon N
The fertiliser consists of 3 components to ensure a multi-layered nitrogen supply:
- Nitrate
- urea (urea or carbamide)
- Ammonium
Ammonium is absorbed immediately and preferentially by the plants, but cannot be stored. The uptake of ammonium is slightly favoured over the uptake of nitrate for energy reasons. However, higher nitrate concentrations inhibit ammonium uptake (from approx. 5 mg/l nitrate).
Excess ammonium is rapidly oxidised to nitrate by nitrifying bacteria using oxygen. For this reason, and to prevent toxic ammonia from forming in toxic quantities at pH values above 7.5, the relatively low proportion in the fertiliser solution was adjusted.
The second component, urea, is intended to provide a remedy here. Urea, as a nitrogenous end product of the nitrogen metabolism of many animals, can either be absorbed directly by the plants or is slowly hydrolysed by the bacteria in the tank to form ammonium and CO₂.
Nitrate is non-toxic to animals at all common aquarium pH values, even in relatively high concentrations, and is therefore used here as a "storage form".
However, some plants can react to nitrate levels of just over 10 mg/l with growth disorders, so this value need not and should not be exceeded as a rule.
Part of the nitrate is added in the form of potassium and magnesium salts, as potassium and magnesium are also heavily consumed in nitrogen-consuming tanks.
Dosage
Daily max. 1 ml per 50 litres of aquarium water until the desired nitrate concentration is reached.
The desired value is in the range of 3 - 8 mg/litre nitrate. More is rarely necessary and only unnecessarily promotes algae growth.
If there is no uptake by the plants and everything is completely mineralised, 1 ml per 50 l of water corresponds to a direct addition of 2 mg/l nitrate, 0.4 mg/l potassium and 0.1 mg/l magnesium.
Composition
6.8 % nitrate, 2.02 % potassium, 1.0 % urea, 0.48 % magnesium, 0.34 % ammonium, methylparaben, EDTA

Eudrakon N - Nitrogen fertiliser solution
Precise control of the important nitrate value in aquariums rich in plants but understocked with fish, so that the plants can still grow.

Eudrakon N - Nitrogen fertiliser solution
As my nitrate content (less than 2mg/l) is very low (fresh water), I have to fertilise my plants with N. I manage this very well with DRAK Eudrakon N and I can specifically set the desired value of e.g. 5-8mg/l. It is also important to keep an eye on the phosphate content. (Redfield Ratio) because of algae formation....
