Sealutions Iodine solution

To cover an increased iodine requirement with immediate effect!

In addition, the water is enriched with the trace elements fluoride and boron enriched.

Iodine/iodide

is needed to maintain cell functions and to build up hormones and defence substances as well as for tissue formation.
The very small amount required makes conventional dosing quite difficult, as there are often excessive jumps in concentration.

A lack of iodine can be seen, for example, when the polyps of large polyp stony corals or disc anemones no longer expand to their full size or their colours fade. However, too much iodine, as indicated by brown-coloured precipitation in the tank, should also be avoided.

The invertebrates of the freshwater also benefit from iodine supplementation. Frequent moulting problems, reduced reproductive vigour and unexplained failures can thus be avoided, especially in the iodine-deficient areas of Central Europe.

Fluoride

Fluorides are the salts of the highly toxic halogen gas fluorine are called fluorides. However, they have completely different properties to the gas itself.

Seawater contains an average of approx. 1.5 mg/l of fluoride. As fluoride forms poorly soluble compounds with all alkaline earth metals (e.g. Mg, Ca, Sr) and is also highly enriched in stony coral skeletons at up to 1,075 mg/kg, fluoride is subject to constant consumption in seawater tanks.

It is possible that the incorporation into the calcareous skeletons of stony corals stabilises their metastable aragonite* structure in a similar way to that assumed for strontium and barium.

* Aragonite is a lime modification that is only metastable under the conditions of the seawater basin. Calcite would be stable.
If aragonite were not stabilised by the incorporation of foreign ions, it would more or less rapidly transform into calcite and destroy the structure of the coral skeletons.

Boron

At 4.6 mg/l, boron is one of the more common elements in seawater. All plants, including marine and symbiotic algae, require boron as a trace nutrient.

Precipitation can occur as calcium borate, particularly at higher pH values, especially when calcium hydroxide is added.

Sehr gut!
