Strontium supply for coral tanks

Strontium is no longer one of the bulk elements in seawater, although at approx. 8 mg/l it is not particularly rare. It has no function in animal or plant metabolism, but serves exclusively as a structural element. In this function, however, it is indispensable for the structure of stony coral skeletons, as it is incorporated into the crystal lattice of the aragonite (lime modification and main component of coral limestone) is isomorphic (i.e. structurally identical) and this lime modification*, which is only metastable under the conditions of the seawater basin, is thus protected against the structurally destructive conversion to calcite stabilised.
Traces of barium are also incorporated into the aragonite* of stony coral skeletons, where it has the same function as strontium.
* If the aragonite were not stabilised by the incorporation of foreign ions, it would transform more or less rapidly into calcite, destroying the structure of the coral skeletons.
Dosage
10 ml per 100 litres of water increase the strontium concentration by 5 mg/litre
In addition, very small amounts of the trace element barium are included.
Contains no chelators!
