General information
The aimed (natural) magnesium content of salt water is approx. 1,350 (1,200 - 1,400) mg/l.
Magnesium is necessary for the ion balance and binds the silica in the water.
Especially coralline red algae and gorgonias have both an increased need for magnesium and an increased magnesium consumption, but also stone corals. Sponges, sea urchins, crayfish, mussels and snails use tiny parts of magnesium for their skeletons.
Possible consequences of a low magnesium content
- Stone corals and coralline red algae suffer from disturbances of growth
- Echinoderms show an insufficient skeleton and crayfish moulting problems
Identification
The difference between the total hardness (Ca + Mg) and the calcium content displays the current magnesium content.
Thereby 1° dH total hardness equals 0.179 mmol/l alkaline earth ions or converted 4.35 mg/l Mg or 7.17 mg/l Ca.
Dosage
10 ml / 10 l water increase the magnesium content by 50 mg/l.
Ingredients
50 g/l magnesium (a mixture of magnesium chloride/magnesium sulphate).
Thereby, the chloride/sulphate proportion equals the natural sea water, so that its use will not change the proportion in the tank.
We exclusively use salt in purest quality and higher.
Does not contain chelating agents!
