A refractometer is a precision optical instrument used to accurately determine the optical density or refractive index of a liquid.
Because the refractive index of salt water is directly related to the salt concentration of the solution, a refractometer is ideal for quickly and accurately measuring the salt concentration in marine aquaria.
With just a few drops of water, the salt concentration is determined within seconds. It can be read off either as absolute salt content (salinity) in per mill (‰, ppt) or as relative density (kg/l compared to water at 20 °C).
A refractometer is always much more accurate and mechanically much less sensitive than an aerometer.
Scope of delivery
Salinity refractometer, 1 small bottle of distilled water water, 1 pipette for applying the water drop, 1 screwdriver for calibration, 1 soft cloth, operating instructions (DE/EN), sturdy plastic box
