Adsorber granules and phosphate binder based on iron(III) hydroxide for the irreversible removal of phosphates from aquariums and ponds. Can be used in fresh and salt water.
Application
Before use, rinse in a bucket of water until the wash water remains almost clear to avoid clouding. This removes any remaining dust from the production of the granules.
Please place the bag somewhere in the water circuit where it is as well circulated as possible. The ideal place for this is of course the pot filter, where the fastest results are achieved due to the high flow rate.
Target values
The granulate is designed for the rapid reduction of phosphate concentrations > 0.5 - 1.0 mg/l, which cannot be reduced quickly or permanently enough by water changes alone (especially at higher phosphate concentrations, phosphate quickly dissolves back from the sediment after a water change with low-phosphate water).
Please remember that aquatic plants also need a minimum level of phosphate to thrive and therefore do not lower the value too far (0.25 mg/l is an acceptable residual value). Of course, you do not need to take this into account in fish-only tanks.
Mode of action
In a first step, phosphate dissolved in water is adsorptively bound to the highly porous iron(III) hydroxide surface. In a subsequent reaction, the conversion to stable iron phosphate takes place according to the following reaction equation:

The phosphate content in the aquarium and pond is effectively reduced within a few days to weeks, depending on how high the original phosphate concentration and total amount are.
Advantages
- High effectiveness at low cost
- High loading rates due to a highly porous surface
Compared to iron or aluminium salt solutions
- No pH change in the treated water
- No entry of conductivity-increasing anions
- No hazardous substance - easy storage and handling
Capacity
At least 15 g phosphate / kg iron(III) hydroxide granulate according to the manufacturer's specifications
According to our own measurements under application conditions, even more than 20 g phosphate / kg granules are bound within 30 days.
As a positive side effect, silicate (silicic acid) is always bound in greater or lesser quantities in addition to phosphate.
Disposal
Once the material is exhausted, you can either dispose of the entire fleece bag in the residual waste or open it with scissors and dispose of the phosphate-laden iron hydroxide granules in the compost or organic waste.
Scope of delivery
A matching filter sock is supplied.

I only added the product today.
I only added the product to the external filter today. I can't say anything about the quality after such a short time. That's why the star rating is not yet meaningful.
