The Aztecs called the axolotl a water monster, but today it is almost extinct in its native Mexico. In the aquarium, this exotic and yet so cute animal is probably one of the most interesting things to keep.
The axolotl is unique in many respects: there is, for example, the unusual development in which the animals do not leave the larval stage and still become sexually mature, or the fascinating ability to regenerate when limbs or organs are missing, and of course the iridescent colour variations.
With this practical primer, the trio of authors close the considerable gaps in knowledge that still exist in the aquarium community with all the important information - from buying and setting up the aquarium to keeping and reproducing the axolotl.
