Substances that are involved in enzyme reactions in which, for example, electrons are transferred (transferred or released by the coenzyme); the coenzyme is attached to the activity centre of the enzyme.
There are free (dissolved) and firmly bound coenzymes. The latter are also known as prosthetic group group.
