ATP

Adenosinetriphosphate, energy supplier of the cell. Formed during respiration during the enzymatic oxidation of organic compounds to CO2 and water in the mitochondria.
Energy-consuming reactions of the cell are coupled enzymatically with the energy-providing splitting of ATP into ADP + phosphate (or even AMP + 2 phosphate).
