Cleaning solution with thiourea - diaphragm cleaner

Over time, the display of pH and redox electrodes can become increasingly sluggish. In addition to the unavoidable ageing of the electrode itself, various deposits from the measuring media, which affect the diaphragm and glass electrode, also contribute to this.

Due to the sulphides that are virtually always present in biological systems and the traces of silver chloride present in the electrolyte, extremely poorly soluble silver sulphides (black colouring!) can form, particularly in the diaphragm of the electrode. This makes charge exchange with the internal reference electrode increasingly difficult.

Thiourea forms exceptionally stable complexes with silver ions, so that even the extremely poorly soluble silver sulphides are dissolved after some time. First place the electrode in the cleaning solution until the diaphragm decolourises, then condition it for about 15 minutes in one of our potassium chloride solutions and finally recalibrate it.
